The Bay of Fundy

The Bay of Fundy is a natural phenomenon. The tides rise and fall twice daily making for one of the most spectacular sites along this coast. These tides are the highest in the world where the average range is 12 metres (approx. 40 feet) and the maximum range 16 metres (approx. 50 feet). The difference between high and low tides is dramatic.

The amount of water that passes by in a twenty-four hour period is astounding - 200 billion tonnes of water flow in and out of the Bay of Fundy on a single tide - an amount greater than the combined flow of all the rivers on Earth in an equivalent timeframe.
